Profile
The department of chemistry was established in Madhabdev College in 1978. Initially, the department was started with a higher secondary course under ASHEC and a B.Sc. course under Dibrugarh University. The Department of Chemistry was upgraded to a postgraduate department at the time of the upgradation of Madhavdev College to a university by the Assam Act No. XXXV of 2017, which was passed by the Government of Assam on 7 September 2017.
The department has state-of-the-art infrastructure in Academic Block-II on the new campus. The department started a postgraduate course in chemistry in 2022 with specializations in inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. The faculty strength of the department is increasing as one associate and three assistant professors have joined recently.
The department of chemistry is introducing new SEC, VAC, AEC, and GE courses from 2026. The department also started to conduct an internship program for both UG and PG students from June 2026.
Research Area
Faculties of the department of chemistry have long exposure to research laboratories of national and international repute before joining. They have started their research work independently in the following areas:

iii) Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
iv) Supramolecular chemistry
v) Theoretical Chemistry
vi) Organic synthesis
vii) Polymer Chemistry
